Base64 to Image — Decode & Download

Paste a base64 string or data URI and get a real image file back — format detected automatically, preview included.

Why Use This Tool?

Got a wall of base64 from an API response, a database dump, or a colleague's email? Paste it here — with or without the data: prefix — and get a real image file back, previewed and ready to download.

The tool detects the image type automatically from the data itself, so PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, and SVG all decode correctly without you telling it.

How It Works

  1. Paste the base64 string or full data URI into the box.
  2. Click Decode — the image appears in the preview below.
  3. Download the file with the correct extension, already figured out for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need the data:image/...;base64, prefix?

No. Paste the raw string and the tool identifies the format by reading the file's magic bytes. Full data URIs work too.

Why does it say 'unrecognized image data'?

The string is probably truncated or contains something that isn't an image. Check that you copied the entire base64 payload.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

Never. Decoding happens in your browser with atob and Blob — the string stays on your device.

Tips & Things to Watch

  • Remove line breaks and quotes — the tool strips whitespace automatically.
  • Huge strings may lag for a second while decoding; that's normal.
  • The preview uses a checkerboard, so transparent PNGs show correctly.
